This rating will allow you to fly in IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions) in the UK only.
The IMC rating gives you a lot more freedom, especially in the UK due to it's changeable weather! Fly above the clouds! We have a good mix of airports offering all kinds of approach procedures. Everything from the NDB/DME to the ILS procedures.
You will need least 15 hours training of instrument flying with an instructor in a suitably equipped dual control aeroplane. The course covers instrument Attitude Flight on full and partial panel, Radio Navigation Aids, Let Down and Approach Procedures and Bad Weather Circuits. There is also a written exam; ground school covers tuition for this.
The total hours required will vary depending on the student's experience and aptitude.
